Activity is mediated mainly through the growth hormone secretagogue receptor, now generally called the ghrelin receptor or GHS-R1a. Binding at this G-protein-coupled receptor triggers phospholipase C signaling, calcium mobilization, and release of growth hormone from pituitary somatotrophs. Reports describe less pronounced stimulation of adrenocorticotropic hormone and prolactin compared with earlier secretagogues such as hexarelin or GHRP-6. Selectivity figures vary between assay systems, so the degree of separation from other secretagogues is an area of ongoing comparison rather than a fixed constant.
In animal and early human studies, ipamorelin produces pulsatile growth hormone release and a secondary rise in insulin-like growth factor 1. The magnitude and duration of that rise depend on route, sampling schedule, and the baseline endocrine state of the subject. Whether repeated exposure alters the response over time is not firmly settled, since some reports describe stable pulsatility while others note attenuation. Most published data come from small samples, which limits the strength of any general claim about long-term behavior.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that belongs to the growth hormone secretagogue class of compounds. Its sequence is Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, a structure that differs from natural ghrelin in length and in the presence of non-natural amino acid residues. Early laboratory work described it as a comparatively selective agent that stimulates growth hormone release with limited effect on other pituitary hormones. The compound is supplied as a lyophilized solid for research use and has no identified natural source in the body.
Published animal and early human work describes growth hormone release that is separated from comparable rises in adrenocorticotropic hormone and cortisol. Prolactin changes are reported as small in the same studies. Selectivity is attributed to binding at the ghrelin receptor and to the downstream signaling that follows, rather than to differences in how quickly the peptide is cleared. Authors commonly label the compound selective rather than potent, because the same mass produces a smaller growth hormone response than some older secretagogues tested in parallel. Whether that profile holds across species and routes of administration remains an open question.
Human data remain limited and come mainly from small, short-term studies conducted decades ago. The peptide has not received approval as a medicine from major regulators, so current availability is largely as a research chemical. Reported effects on growth hormone pulsatility, appetite, and body composition should be read as preliminary, since few independent groups have replicated the original findings. Analytical characterization of research-grade material varies between suppliers, which complicates comparison across studies. Regulatory status also differs by country, and some jurisdictions classify it as a prescription-only or otherwise restricted item.

At the receptor level, ipamorelin binds GHS-R1a and triggers signaling through Gq-coupled pathways. Activation leads to calcium release and downstream effects in pituitary somatotroph cells. These events promote the release of growth hormone into circulation. The response depends on the presence of the receptor and on the physiological state of the animal or tissue studied. Because the receptor is also found in other tissues, effects beyond the pituitary have been examined in laboratory models, though the extent of those effects remains an area of ongoing study.
One distinguishing feature reported in animal studies is selectivity. Ipamorelin stimulated growth hormone release with limited elevation of adrenocorticotropic hormone or cortisol compared with earlier secretagogues such as GHRP-6. This pattern has been described as more selective for the growth hormone axis. The finding comes mainly from preclinical work, and the degree to which it holds across species and doses is not fully settled. Reports also describe effects on gastric motility in animal models, suggesting activity outside the pituitary, though the clinical relevance of this observation is uncertain.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that acts as an agonist at the ghrelin receptor, also called the growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1a. Its sequence incorporates non-natural residues, which slows enzymatic breakdown relative to short native peptides. In laboratory and early clinical work the compound is described as a selective growth hormone secretagogue because it raises growth hormone with comparatively little effect on other pituitary outputs. The degree to which that selectivity holds across species and dosing regimens remains an open question in the published literature.
Signal transduction begins when the peptide binds GHSR-1a on pituitary somatotrophs. The receptor couples to Gq/11 proteins, activating phospholipase C, which cleaves phosphatidylinositol bisphosphate into inositol trisphosphate and diacylglycerol. Inositol trisphosphate releases calcium from intracellular stores, and the resulting rise in cytosolic calcium drives growth hormone vesicle fusion. Concurrent Gs coupling and cyclic AMP elevation have also been reported, and the relative contribution of each arm to the overall secretory response is not fully settled.
Material supplied for research use is normally a white to off-white lyophilized powder. The solid is hygroscopic and is handled in a low-humidity environment to limit water uptake. Bulk quantities are frequently shipped in sealed vials under inert gas. Once reconstituted in water or a neutral buffer, the solution is less stable than the dry powder and is usually divided into single-use aliquots.
Long-term storage of the dry powder is typically at minus twenty degrees Celsius or lower, protected from light and moisture. Solutions are commonly kept frozen and thawed only once, because repeated freeze-thaw cycles can promote aggregation and loss of measurable peptide content. Buffers near neutral pH are preferred over strongly acidic or strongly basic conditions. Shipping at ambient temperature is acceptable for short periods when the powder remains sealed and desiccated.
Identity and purity are assessed by complementary methods rather than a single test. Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography separates the peptide from related impurities and reports a percentage purity. Mass spectrometry, most often with electrospray ionization, confirms the expected molecular mass and detects sequence-related variants. Amino acid analysis can verify composition, while water content and residual counterion measurements support the mass balance of a batch. Stability studies under accelerated conditions are used to estimate shelf life, though such estimates carry uncertainty for long-term storage.
== Adverse events == Rare but serious adverse events reported following Proquad vaccination include allergic reactions, including swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; difficulty breathing or closing of the throat; hives; paleness; weakness; dizziness; a fast heartbeat; deafness; long-term seizures, coma, or lowered consciousness; seizures (jerking or staring) caused by fever; or temporary low platelet count. For children aged two and younger, the MMRV vaccine is associated with significantly more adverse events compared to separate administration of MMR and varicella vaccinations on the same day. There are 4.3 additional febrile seizures per 10,000 vaccinated children (95% CI 2.6–5.6), 7.5 additional mostly mild fever episodes per 100 vaccinated children (95% CI, 5.4–9.4) and 1.1 additional measles-like rash per 100 children (95% CI, 0.2–1.8). Febrile seizures caused by the MMRV vaccine occur 7 to 10 days after vaccination. In children age 4–6, there is no evidence for an increased risk in febrile seizures after the administration of Proquad compared to the separate administration of MMR and Varicella vaccines.
===== Dipterans ===== If flies are fed serotonin, they are more aggressive; flies depleted of serotonin still exhibit aggression, but they do so much less frequently. In their crops it plays a vital role in digestive motility produced by contraction. Serotonin that acts on the crop is exogenous to the crop itself and 2012 research suggested that it probably originated in the serotonin neural plexus in the thoracic-abdominal synganglion. In 2011 a Drosophila serotonergic mushroom body was found to work in concert with Amnesiac to form memories. In 2007 serotonin was found to promote aggression in Diptera, which was counteracted by neuropeptide F – a surprising find given that they both promote courtship, which is usually similar to aggression in most respects.
===== Pharmacy logistics and Unit Dose ===== Hospital pharmacies use PTS to expedite medication distribution to wards and automated dispensing points. Integration with Unit Dose packaging and dispensing solutions enables patient-specific, traceable medication flows and supports closed-loop medication management. Industry systems (e.g., TheraPick; Baxter’s unit-dose platforms) and hospital PTS vendors describe end-to-end traceability and secure handover at sending/receiving stations.
=== Classification === Historical classification systems were based on clinical factors. Until the early 1970s, the idea of a single amyloid substance predominated. Various descriptive classification systems were proposed based on the organ distribution of amyloid deposits and clinical findings. Most classification systems included primary (i.e., idiopathic) amyloidosis, in which no associated clinical condition was identified, and secondary amyloidosis (i.e., secondary to chronic inflammatory conditions). Some classification systems included myeloma-associated, familial, and localized amyloidosis. The modern era of amyloidosis classification began in the late 1960s with the development of methods to make amyloid fibrils soluble. These methods permitted scientists to study the chemical properties of amyloids. Descriptive terms such as primary amyloidosis, secondary amyloidosis, and others (e.g., senile amyloidosis), which are not based on cause, provide little useful information and are no longer recommended. The modern classification of amyloid disease tends to use an abbreviation of the protein that makes the majority of deposits, prefixed with the letter A. For example, amyloidosis caused by transthyretin is termed "ATTR". Deposition patterns vary between people but are almost always composed of just one amyloidogenic protein. Deposition can be systemic (affecting many different organ systems) or organ-specific. Many amyloidoses are inherited, due to mutations in the precursor protein.
Dense connective tissue, also called dense fibrous tissue, is a type of connective tissue with fibers as its main matrix element. The fibers are mainly composed of type I collagen. Crowded between the collagen fibers are rows of fibroblasts, fiber-forming cells, that generate the fibers. Dense connective tissue forms strong, rope-like structures such as tendons and ligaments. Tendons attach skeletal muscles to bones; ligaments connect bones to bones at joints. Ligaments are more stretchy and contain more elastic fibers than tendons. Dense connective tissue also make up the lower layers of the skin (dermis), where it is arranged in sheets. In addition, the sclera contains dense connective tissue

He was, however, unable to explain the reason why, and his assertion had no impact on the prevailing opinion of the influential physicians of the age, that scurvy was a digestive complaint. Besides afflicting ocean travelers, until the late Middle Ages scurvy was common in Europe in late winter, when few green vegetables, fruits, and root vegetables were available. This gradually improved with the introduction of potatoes from the Americas; by 1800, scurvy was virtually unheard of in Scotland, where it had previously been endemic.
Loop type, in which the primary coolant is circulated through primary heat exchangers outside the reactor tank (but inside the biological shield due to radioactive 24Na in the primary coolant) Pool type, in which the primary heat exchangers and pumps are immersed in the reactor tank There are only two commercially operating breeder reactors as of 2017: the BN-600 reactor, at 560 MWe, and the BN-800 reactor, at 880 MWe. Both are Russian sodium-cooled reactors. The designs use liquid metal as the primary coolant, to transfer heat from the core to steam used to power the electricity generating turbines. FBRs cooled by liquid metals other than sodium have been built, some early FBRs such as Clementine used mercury, Lead-cooled fast reactor have also been constructed, as well as other experimental reactors using Lead-bismuth eutectic or NaK, a sodium-potassium alloy. Mercury and NaK have the advantage that they are liquids at room temperature, which is convenient for experimental rigs but less important for pilot or full-scale power stations, where their chemical toxicity and cost respectively leave them as less attractive options. The Soviet Union used lead–bismuth coolant in some naval reactors. BREST-OD-300 is a later Russian design that uses lead coolant. Its first concrete was poured in June 2021. The SVBR-100 design specifies lead-bismuth eutectic as its coolant. Three of the proposed generation IV reactor types use a fast-neutron spectrum:
Gioia Tauro harbor, completed in 1985 was conceived as a trading port for the steel plant, was later used as a transit port: from the outset, it was under the control of the Piromalli and Molè clans, who used it to import drugs and counterfeit goods. In the 1990s, in order to quell the murder spree (such as the 1991 murder of Judge Antonino Scopelliti, who was working on the Palermo Maxi Trial), Operation Riace was implemented, bringing the army (1350 personnel) to bear. Other initiatives included “Wall Street,” ‘Count Down,’ ‘Hoca Tuca,’ ‘North-South,’ ‘Belgium,’ and ‘Fine,’ which involved many 'ndrine and ended the Siderno Group, a drug trafficking consortium between Canada and Calabria.
=== Marketing === Liraglutide was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2014, and by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in 2015, for adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater (obesity) or a BMI of 27 or greater (overweight) who have at least one weight-related condition. Liraglutide was approved by the FDA in 2019, for treatment of children aged ten years of age or older with type 2 diabetes, making it the first non-insulin drug approved to treat type 2 diabetes in children since metformin was approved in 2000. Novo Nordisk made deals with generic manufacturers to enter the United States market in 2024. The FDA approved the first generic liraglutide in December 2024, and granted the approval to Hikma Pharmaceuticals USA

It is a synthetic pentapeptide in the growth hormone secretagogue family and acts as an agonist at the ghrelin receptor. It is handled as a laboratory research compound rather than a naturally occurring hormone.
Studies generally report growth hormone as the dominant output, with smaller or absent effects on adrenocorticotropic hormone and prolactin. The size of that separation depends on the assay and the dose examined, so it is best described as relative selectivity.
No natural source has been identified, and the molecule is produced by chemical synthesis. Its non-natural residues distinguish it from endogenous ghrelin even though both engage the same receptor.
It has not been approved as a therapeutic by major regulators, and the human trial record is small and dated. Material available today is mostly sold as a research chemical for laboratory use. Approval and restriction status varies by country.
